Rewards of the Journey

Would you become really good at doing a particular thing? Does it interest you to
develop your skill in a particular area such that you earn the awe and respect of
others for your accomplishments? Is there something that interests you, that draws
your attention, that quietly calls to you?

Our inclinations toward the production of something useful, or something pleasurable,
may not flash upon our hearts like a neon sign. The inspiration may come subtly, like
the opening of the heart in a particular direction. We may feel drawn to a particular
activity without knowing why. We may find ourselves dipped into an environment of
people engaged in the activity and feel intrigued by it. The mere thought of that
particular activity may enliven us and cause a serge of adrenaline into our blood.
Unfortunately, few people seem to act upon such heart-felt drawings of the soul.

The tide of our social environment ebbs us toward conformity rather than the succulent
fragrance of originality in creation. We secretly yearn for the satisfaction of original
creation but few are those who blindly thrash toward it. Obedience to reason; to social
customs; to modern scientific constructs of reality; and the thinking and behavioral
paradigms of religions urge us to deny the callings of our soul’s desires in favour
of externally imposed values and expectations.

The path of the soul is unchartered; that means you have to forge the path. The rewards
of such a journey are seldom measured by socially recognized standards, such as
certificates, degrees, public recognition, support and honour. In truth many will
shun you for your diversity and for veering off the well trodden path! You may have
to sacrifice your reputation, endure alienation from loved ones, and suffer financial
hardship for listening to your soul.

Fear not, though. Once you have arrived at the pinnacle of original creation; once
you have honed your skill and endured the thankless process of trial and error to
achieve this success – something new, something useful, something magnificent!
– then shall you again receive the recognition and rewards from society. Then shall
society secretly, or openly, praise your great efforts and admire your courage to
forge a new path. Then shall the world be made more by your unique contribution to it.

Have a wonderful week!
